ABACO- A paradise that stretches 120 miles from Walker's Cay in the north to Sandy Point in the south, dotted with private islands and picturesque cays. Abaco has many features that lure people to return to our shores year after year, from the much visited candy-striped lighthouse in Elbow Cay to the many annual regattas and fishing tournaments. Our great barrier reefs, so colorful and alive, are just another reason to pack up your beach gear and come on over. A snorkeler's dream!
Abaco is also known as the boat building capital and a sailor's delight. A golfer's paradise can be found at the Treasure Cay golf course where many famous people have putted a time or two. Some of the many sought after locations to stretch your hammock include the outer lying cays of Elbow Cay, Man-O-War Cay, Guana Cay and Green Turtle Cay. These small charming communities share the unspoiled beauty, but each has its own characteristics and charm. Throughout Abaco you'll find true beauty and nature at its best. Let's not forget our beautiful powder white beaches and gin clear water that will entice you to come out and enjoy a sun drenched day! Our famous Treasure Cay beach was rated one of the top ten beaches in the world by National Geographic.
One other thing I must mention about Abaco is the Abaco Parrot. These are protected and there is a 20,000 acre park that serves as a habitat. Certain places, such as Bahama Palm Shores on the mainland, are popular for sighting this magnificent, vibrant bird. I've shown property many times in this area and had the awesome experience of seeing 15 or 20 parrots perched in the tree tops and hearing their jubilant sound!
On occasion, you’ll pass the Abaco wild boar on the highway. Some Abaconians hunt these animals and you will notice at times throughout the year pig roasts are held in various communities. Mostly Christmas and New Years. On very rare occasions wild horses can be spotted, but there are very few of these amazing animals visible on our island.
